Along with the new season comes the time to check that all of your equipment is in good working order. And at the top of the list should be those all important grippers!
Suitable grippers are useful for a multitude of reasons but at the forefront of those is SAFETY! Old, worn grippers can become the exact opposite of what they say they are, slippy! An old gripper can cause less grip whilst sweeping and even walking, increasing your chances of slips and nasty falls.
So, how do you know if your gripper is past it’s best?
- Rubber starting to peel away from the inside or outside
- A shiny look to the rubber on the bottom
- A flat surface on the bottom, rather than the almost pebble like original
- A gathering of nasty dirt and debris in or outside
On top of safety risks, old, worn grippers can increase risks of pick ups, ruining the running path of your stones. Debris from fraying grippers can lead to a build up of dirty ice, making it difficult for ice makers to keep your ice clean and pure. So if you’d like to ensure you avoid your stones veering off to the car park… check those grippers!
